A very light, multi-purpose belay/abseil device, with range of friction adapted to different rope types from 7.5mm twins, through 8.1mm - 9mm halves to 8.9mm - 11mm singles. V-shaped grooves regulate the amount of braking friction on the rope according to its diameter and condition. It can also be used by instructors bringing up two clients and will lock off automatically if used in "reverso" mode. An extra hole in the device allows a small karabiner to be inserted to aid releasing a locked off rope so that a client can be lowered if necessary (remembering to tie the second client off first!).
The Reverso 3 is a new departure for Petzl, being their first foray into hot forging - previous hot forged products of theirs have actually been made by other manufacturers (including DMM). It looks to be an excellent device and should become a firm favourite amongst mountain guides.
